Start to finish.
Where do I begin? This post isn’t going to write itself. It’s easy to lose track of time when you’re staring at that long list of things needing to be done, and not start a single task. Many individuals commonly struggle with prioritizing, and efficiently completing tasks. As one continues to mentally debate on which task to start first, the list continues to grow. As the list grows, so does the stress. As individuals become overwhelmed, they sometimes never manage to complete a single task on the list. Maybe stay in bed, return to bed, or throw in the towel, and give up.
The trick to overcoming this prioritizing problem is simple. START something, anything. Pick the first item on the list, and do it. I know some people will tell you to order the list from easiest or quickest, and start working in that order. Others might suggest you pick the task you’re dreading the most, and start with it so you’ll feel better once it’s done. The reality is, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is that you start a task, and you complete the task. Each task that gets completed reduces the stress, increases motivation, builds confidence, and over time trains the brain to more accurately assess, prioritize, and accomplish goals.
I know what you’re thinking: If it’s really that simple, wouldn’t I have already figured it out by now. Of course, I’m not telling you anything I don’t think you already know. However, if we can both agree that you often feel this way, and continue to struggle prioritizing, and completing tasks efficiently, then it’s probably time to reach out for help.
